An introduction to JQTouch in web design

Today I would like to introduce you to the world of JQTouch. I have recently stumbled across this great plug-in which aids you in creating app style websites for mobile devices. Web Apps are essentially a mobile version of your website that acts like a mobile application which is becoming increasingly popular in the world of web design.

There are quite a few nice examples of web apps around and you do not need to look far to find one. Once you have visited the website on your mobile device, you can simply add the site to your home screen and you now the site acts as an app. It can be launched from your home screen, even include an initial loading screen, and be responsive to your browser also allowing tilt.

JQTouch comes with all of the tools that you need to start building a web app and a couple of rather slick themes to get you off to a running start.

Whilst using JQTouch I also found that downloading Apples XCode from their developer website can also really help as it includes all the tools you need to get started when building apps for the app store, but you also get a great iPhone emulator for your desktop to test out your web app. You may want to visit blockbuster and rent out a film or two with some popcorn and some other salt based snacks as without supersonic broadband you are going to be waiting a while for this 4GB application to download, but its worth the wait.

JQTouch can be downloaded from their official site here.
XCode from Apple can be downloaded here.
