5 simple tips for optimising your website’s logo

One of the constant but often overlooked elements on a website’s design is the logo. The logo plays an important role not only in the design and branding of a website, but also in usability and SEO. Therefore, we wanted to take the opportunity to share 5 tips for designers to ensure that the logo is both utilized for usability and optimized for SEO.

The Tips!

  1. Use a real, visible graphic
  2. Crop the logo to remove all white space
  3. Consider saving your logo with a transparent background
  4. Link the logo to the homepage or root directory
  5. Name and label your logo correctly

    Good tips, though I thought it’s worth noting that the “next” logo is created that way as per their brand. A quick google image search of “next logo” shows what I mean, so while your tip is more than valid, it perhaps wasn’t the best example to use for this :)

    Sarah, that’s a very good point. It wasn’t until after I did the video, that I noticed when driving past Next, that indeed the graphic exactly matches the way they display their logo on the black rectangle.

    This would make sense as to why the graphic is saved in this way on the website, despite being on a black background. Indeed, a better example would have worked better!
